Horse
Racing Betting - Pick 3 a New Exotic Wager
One of my favorites is the Pick 3 for several reasons. For example, I believe its
easier to pick the winners of three consecutive races than the order of finish playing a
trifecta in a single contest.
Horse
Racing Betting - Exactas Offer Better Value
Exacta wagering pools offer more value than straight betting pools since theres
plenty of foolish cash going into quite a few races.
Horse
Racing Odds - It's a Sound Idea to Learn How to Wager
An older lady recently overheard me discussing wagering strategy and politely inquired:
"I wonder if you could answer a question for me - what's the difference between a
Pick 3 and a trifecta?"
Horse
Racing Betting - How to Handicap Horses Second Time Off a Layoff
I've always believed it's tricky trying to handicap horses coming off long layoffs. So the
next logical question: How about second time off a layoff? One of my favorite handicappers
that answered the original question is Steve Klein of the Daily Racing Form. His premise
expressed several years ago:
Basic
Horse Betting Training Vital When Beginner's Luck Fade
People that frequently go to the horse racetrack, but lack the basic knowledge when it
comes to handicapping and wagering always puzzle me.
The
Tote Board
Those are some observations I've heard watching the tote board trackside over the years.
When the board lights up, you should pay attention. And since it's often said "money
talks," listen, because the board has loads to say that can be beneficial to your
handicapping.
Trainer-Jockey
Stats
I've found that winning trainer-jockey combinations over the past several years have
become an important ingredient in my recipe for successful handicapping.
Synthetic
Surfaces
Pay attention, horseplayers, because whether it's Polytrack, the Cushion Track or the
Tapeta synthetic surface, the newest phenomenon will alter your handicapping methods.
Do Your
Homework
People who frequently go to tracks but lack the basic knowledge when it comes to
handicapping and wagering always puzzle me.
Rely More
On Handicapping Than So-Called Tips
Unless I get the message straight from the horses mouth or another part of the
anatomy -- aggressive, controllable behavior, shiny coat or a fluid transition from a
walking gait to a gallop in the post parade -- I rely on handicapping.
Maiden
Races Offer Chance For Big Score
There was a time when I skipped maiden races. That ended a long time ago when I
learned there was money to be made. |

Horse Racing Rules
- Allow wagers up to 2 minutes before the scheduled post time.
The time left to wager on each horse race is made available on the website. Any tickets
placed after this time will be void.
- When placing a wager on a horse they will generally be
identified by name not the number.
- Payouts may vary according to bet type and horse race track.
In most cases full track odds are paid with a maximum payoff. There is no maximum payoff
for Win, Place and Show, which will be paid out at track odds. Exotics will have a maximum
payoff - please see the table located elsewhere on the site for specific payoffs.
- In the event there is a wager made with no track results or
payout information posted, the wager will be refunded. An example of this would be, 1)
scratch horses reducing the number of entries, 2) no payout results (the race did not
run).
- Tickets cannot be graded until the official results have
been posted. Funds will be credited to your account usually within 10 to 15 minutes after
the official results have been posted.
- No Consolation Payouts.
- A horse is scratched when it is listed as an entry but does
not run in the race. A horse may be scratched early in the day or minutes before the start
of the race.
- Scratches on Multi Race Bets - Any scratches after the first
leg of the multi race ticket that has been completed with a loss will result in a losing
ticket. An example would be if your first race lost and your horse in the next race was
scratched. The ticket would be a losing ticket due to your combination including a loser.
If the selection on the earlier stage of the multi-race bet are correct, then the
scratches occur in the middle or later legs, this would allow those multi-race bets to be
refunded. (This is different from the race track that produce winners via consolation
payout.)
- Coupled Horses - Horses that belong to one owner or under
one trainer running in the same race are coupled together. When you bet on one
you also get the other; you get horse 1 and horse 1a, for example. When one of the coupled
horses wins, both horses win. In the case that both horses finish, the higher payout will
be applied. In the event of a scratch you have action, unless both coupled horses scratch.
- Field Entry - When there are a large amount of horses
running in a race, several horses are grouped together as field horses. For payouts and
refunds, the same rules as Coupled Entry apply.
- Horse Tickets must be finalized before the race starts. Any
wagers placed after the start of the race will be "no action" and all monies
will be refunded.
* Full Track Odds + 10% is offered at selected tracks only.
