5 Picks To Click For 10-13-2006

I'm happy to be of service to you. Our five picks to click had another 4-1 week last week, but that's still not good enough. I want to be perfect! And once I do, I'll try to do it again ... and again ... and again. Same situation, different week; let's do this!

Arizona at Stanford

WagerWeb.com line:
Arizona -3.5

The 2-4 vs. 0-6 matchups are the easy ones to make money in. Arizona has lived up to none of its preseason hype, while Stanford has lived up to winning none of its games. Arizona QB Willie Tuitama is expected to miss this game, but it won't matter. No matter how bad you think the Wildcats are, they aren't worse than the Cardinal. Mike Stoops won't let his program stoop this low. If so, he may be fired. I have a very strong hunch about this one.

Pick: Arizona

Purdue at Northwestern

WagerWeb.com line:
Purdue -7

If you think there's homefield advantage at Northwestern, need I remind you when New Hampshire came to town for the Wildcats' home opener and opened up shop by the tune of 34-17. Purdue is not a bad team, the Boilermakers have just been playing some really good opponents. After being dominated by Notre Dame and Iowa, look for the Boilermakers to take their aggression out. Purdue is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, and Purdue is looking for revenge from last year. The Curtis Painter to Dorien Bryant connection will not fail you.

Pick: Purdue

Houston at Southern Mississippi

WagerWeb.com line:
USM -2

Both teams are coming off disappointing losses, the more disappointing of the two comes from Houston, which was favored by 17.5 points and lost outright to Louisiana-Lafayette. Southern Miss played well at home, beating ACC foe NC State 37-17 in its last home appearance. Southern Miss has won six of the past eight meetings between these two straight up, including the past three at home. Southern Mississippi will be without RB Damion Fletcher (120 yards per game) for the first half because of suspension, so he will be fresh for a second-half explosion.

Pick: Southern Miss

Oklahoma State at Kansas

WagerWeb.com line:
Kansas -2

Oklahoma State's 3-0 start was a fluke. You have to believe the lack of non-conference opponents hasn't prepared the Cowboys for the Big 12 season. Kansas gives up only 98 yards per game on the ground, while Oklahoma State rushes for an average of 200 yards on the ground. Advantage: Defense that has been tested. Kansas is tough at home. Last week the Jayhawks blew a double-digit lead, and the home game before they beat an underrated South Florida squad.

Pick: Kansas

Army at Connecticut

WagerWeb.com line:
UConn -4.5

Could I really be betting on Army? Well, the Cadets are 3-3. They have beaten a quality Baylor team and scared Texas A&M. Connecticut is very hit or miss. Lately, it's been miss as the Huskies have been outscored 79-33 in the past two games. Connecticut dismissed two guys from the team as well as losing an offensive tackle for the season this past week, so look for that program to be in disarray. I'm doing it: I'm picking Bobby Ross' team to cover the spread.

Pick: Army

Last Week: 4-1

Overall: 14-6
