5 Picks To Click For 10-27-2006

OK, so last week wasn't our best. A very bad Duke team wore down "The U" and almost came out with an outright victory. We went back to the drawing board and have got our niche back. Here are five more non-top 25 matchups that are sure to cover the spread.

Northern Illinois at Iowa

WagerWeb.com Line: Iowa -16

No Drew Tate (thumb surgery), now that's a big problem. Without Tate against Syracuse, the Hawkeyes needed overtime and seven goal-line stands to pull out a victory. The Hawkeyes didn't fare well last year without Tate, as they lost 23-3 to Iowa State. Iowa has a hard time putting up points without its QB. Northern Illinois RB Garrett Wolfe has torched good defenses on the ground, and it will be no different on Saturday. The teams have only met one time, back in 1999 when Iowa won 24-0.

Pick: Northern Illinois

Cincinnati at Syracuse

WagerWeb.com Line: Cincy -6.5

Cincinnati has been playing excellent football as of late. Not only have the Bearcats covered the spread the past five games, but they shut out a quality South Florida offense for 59 minutes in a 23-6 victory. The Orange have had a nice run, but it will end because of their run defense. Syracuse has given up over 200 yards of rushing in each of its past three games. Yes, that includes West Virginia's 457-yard performance. The Bearcats have rushed for 191, 212, 194 yards in their past three games, respectively.

Pick: Cincinnati

Bowling Green at Temple

WagerWeb.com Line: BG -18

Bowling Green hasn't necessarily been a money-maker this year. However, against Temple the Falcons will be able to get the job done. In the past four meetings, the Falcons are 3-1 ATS. The weak spot for Temple is its run defense. Bowling Green averages 185 yards per game on the ground. Last year, Bowling Green won this game 70-7. The Owls have only kept it within 19 points in two of eight games this year. Bowling Green may not be good, but Temple is very bad.

Pick: Bowling Green

BYU at Air Force

WagerWeb.com line: BYU -8.5

Air Force hasn't covered any of the past three games, including its last game against San Diego State where the Falcons were 10-point favorites and lost outright 19-12. QB John Beck and BYU beat that SDSU team by 30 the week before, with Beck throwing four TDs. Also, BYU understands the importance of this game since the winner will have a leg up in the Mountain West. BYU is 2-0 ATS in the past two meetings between these teams.   BYU has been a money-maker all year (6-1 ATS in 2006). The game will be won at the line of scrimmage: Air Force runs the ball for 279 yards per game, while BYU only gives up 107 yards per game.

Pick: BYU

Akron at Toledo

WagerWeb.com Line: Akron -5

Toledo has been unimpressive this year. What stands out is the Rockets' embarrassing loss on the road against Kent State, 40-14. Fortunately for the Rockets, they play at home this week, where they are 1-1 ATS. Akron also has struggled on the road in 2006, where the Zips hold a 1-4 ATS record. Based on the past two meetings, Toledo has covered them both and hasnt lost a game against Akron in the past six meetings. Toledo may get embarrassed on the road, but not at home.

Pick: Toledo

Last Week: 1-4

Overall:
18-12
