5 Picks To Click For 11-10-2006

If you let down the betting public and your team gets embarrassed at home, you will be asked to resign. Just ask Iowa State coach Dan McCarney and the 41-10 disgraceful performance his team put in last Saturday. Same deal for this week, five non-top-25 teams who will cover the spread.

Houston at SMU

WagerWeb.com line: UH -3

If an embarrassing 29-24 loss last year at home to SMU isn't enough to get the Cougars pumped, then how about using the whole "Let's win the conference"pep talk. SMU has had success at home, 4-0 SU/ 3-0 ATS this year, but the opponents were awfully weak: Sam Houston State, Arkansas State, Marshall and UAB. Houston is coming off a big win over conference rival Tulsa and has won its past three by at least 17. Look for the Cougars to win big.
Pick: UH

Navy at E. Michigan
WagerWeb.com line: Navy -15

Eastern Michigan may be bad (1-8 SU), but the Eagles are as close to having a winning record as a 1-8 team can be. Five of the Eagles' eight losses have come by 8 points or less. Eastern Michigan has also covered the past four games. And since Navy QB Brian Hampton has been injured, the Midshipmen are 1-2 ATS (their only win against Duke). Look for Eastern Michigan to give Navy all it can handle but likely fall short -- but that should be good for a cover.
Pick: E. Michigan

Rice at Tulsa
WagerWeb.com line: Tulsa -14

Tulsa comes off a 17-point loss to UH, but that game was on the road. At Skelly Stadium the Golden Hurricanes are 4-0 SU and 2-1 ATS. Rice has a miserable defense that ranks 114th in the nation, giving up 429 yards per game. Mix that with QB Paul Smith's Tulsa offense and its 379 yards per game average and we're looking at a lot of scoring. Tulsa has won and covered the past two meetings with Rice.
Pick: Tulsa

Stanford at Washington
WagerWeb.com line: Washington -19

Stanford has been the bread and butter of the five picks to click segment. The Cardinal have been terrible all season, only covering once (against a Top 25 team) and being demolished every other week. Since Stanford starting QB Trent Edwards was injured, the team has failed to score a touchdown and has been outscored 80-3. Tyrone Willingham's squad can sleep-walk at home and still cover this spread.
Pick: Washington

Iowa State at Colorado

WagerWeb.Com Line: CU -8.5

ISU's defense is horrible, and Coach Dan McCarney is on the way out. One of Iowa States top offensive threats, Todd Blythe, will likely miss this game. We've seen this year that QB Bret Meyer cannot do things by himself for the Cyclones. The Buffaloes are nothing to brag about, either. What they have working for them is the fact the players are playing for spots on the team next year. Iowa State has lost its past 5 games by double digits.
Pick: Colorado

Last Week:
2-3
Overall: 24-16 (60%)
