More NCAA Coaching Moves

And the college football coaching carousel continues to spin -- on Monday, two more Division I coaches were fired.

At Stanford, Walt Harris was let go after the Cardinal finished their worst season since 1960. Stanford finished 1-11 this season, and Harris was 6-17 in two seasons since coming from the University of Pittsburgh.

"This has been a tough year," Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby said. "In some respects this decision was not made as a result of a 1-11 season as much as not seeing the progress in critical areas we would have liked to see the last two years."

One name that may surface to take over the program is Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green. Green is a former Stanford coach who is expected to be let go by Arizona after the NFL season.

Also Monday, Louisiana Tech fired Coach Jack Bicknell after a 3-10 season. Bicknell took over in 1999 and compiled an overall record of 42-53.

"This was a very difficult decision," Tech athletic director Jim Oakes said. "Jack Bicknell has led this football program with class and integrity. He is an outstanding coach who has achieved success here. Unfortunately, a change has to be made with the direction of our football program."

These moves come a day after Brian Kelly left his coaching spot at Central Michigan to take over at Cincinnati for Mark Dantonio, who left the Bearcats for Michigan State last week.

One coach who apparently is not leaving his job is Rutgers' Greg Schiano. Schiano, a former University of Miami defensive coordinator, spoke with UM athletic director Paul Dee about the Hurricanes' opening. But Schiano said Monday he's staying put after leading the Scarlet Knights to a 10-2 record and near BCS bowl berth.

"This is where I want to be. This is the job I want to have," Schiano said.

Schiano is expected to get a new, more lucrative contract from Rutgers.
